Personal saving rate, monthly, seasonally adjusted: US Bureau of Economic Analysis, via FRED series PSAVERT, 812 monthly values from January 1959 to August 2026, downloaded 25 October 2026. The rate is personal saving as a share of disposable personal income. Cushion time = months of target spending / 12 x (1 - rate) / rate, which assumes spending equals income minus saving, a constant rate and monthly compounding at the interest rate you choose (default none).
